In my opinion, media and public relations are the most underrated form of advertising for small businesses. If you are able to overcome a fear of speaking in front of crowds, you have any number of organizations that would love to hear about small business from someone "in the trenches".

As an example, I am providing a one-hour CPE presentation at two accounting organizations this winter, and I am also developing content for future presentations. I am also volunteering my services to the news media outlets in my town as a source for business articles. These methods are free and provide you with instant credibility as an expert in your field.
